The University of Pécs received the illustrious 401-500th ranking in two categories in the prestigious Times Higher Education international ranking. According to the list of the London-based company dealing with the comparison of higher education institutions, the UP is included in the world’s TOP 500 universities in the fields of clinical sciences and life sciences; moreover, the UP is included as the strongest Hungarian rural university.
The University of Pécs got in the Times Higher Education rankings called „Clinical, pre-clinial & health subject”, and „Life Sciences Subject”, which take into account the same five performance indicators as the THE World University Rankings but the certain indicators have different weightings.
The certain university strengths are examined in the main branches of activity: education, research, number of citations, international „visibility”, and industrial income. The citations have the greatest significance (35%) in these rankings but the educational, research results (27,5-27,5%) are also taken into serious account.
Dr. Attila Miseta, rector of the University of Pécs said in connection with the fresh comparison: „The international ranking composed by the Times Higher Education is one of the mostly acknowledged rankings in the circle of the highly listed higher education institutions. Based on this we can be rightfully proud of the achieved result as we belong to the best 500 in two scientific fields as well. At the same time our goal is to strengthen the other fields too and to catch up with this narrow elite.”
