Celebratory assembly and celebratory opening session of the Senate

September 1st is Pécs City Day and from 2017, the 650th anniversary of the foundation of the first Hungarian university, the Day of Hungarian Higher Education as well. This dual celebration was held at the National Theatre of Pécs by the assembly of the Pécs District Council and a celebratory opening session of the Senate of the University of Pécs.

After the welcome speeches of Dr. József Bódis, State Secretary for Higher Education, Dr. Zsolt Páva, Mayor, and Dr. Attila Miseta, Rector of the University of Pécs, the two institutions handed over their most prestigious awards.

Professor Balázs Sümegi, former head of the University of Pécs Medical School Department of Biochemistry and Medical Chemistry, was posthumously awarded.

The City of Pécs awarded Katalin Bódisné Zámbó the "PRO Communitate" award in recognition of her decades of dedicated and professional work in the field of clinical medicine.

Dr. Miklós Kellermayer received the "PRO Civitate" award for his public education and science organization activity in the field of medicine, and Dr. Lajos Kollár received the "PRO Civitate" award in recognition of his decades of professional and scientific career in the field of clinical medicine.
