UP has a prestigious place on the ranking list of the world’s green universities
This year, the University of Pécs was ranked 100th among the 780 registered universities on the ranking list of the world’s environmentally responsible higher education institutions. This represents an advance of 40 positions compared to last year's result.
Since 2010, the University of Indonesia compiles a ranking list to facilitate and support sustainable environmental development based on "green" measures of the universities around the world.
How big the green areas are on campus, how much they are striving to reduce the effects of climate change, whether they are collecting waste selectively, whether they use water-saving equipment and whether they have introduced other measures that reflect an environmentally responsible attitude: these are the key aspects when compiling the list of the Green Metric Ranking of World Universities. The “Green University” idea is thus a complex system, including the built environment, the environmentally responsible operation, the development of attitudes related to it, and the establishment of an educational and research background.
While only 95 institutions from 35 countries provided data for the survey in the first year, 719 higher education institutions from 81 countries joined the survey last year and 780 higher education institutions joined this year.
The continuous development of the University of Pécs can be seen in the system based on objective measures because while in 2016 UP was 355th on the list, in 2017 it was 179th, and in 2018 it was able to top this performance by almost a thousand points, which meant the 140th place. UP has taken a big step this year as well and is now 100th on the list.
