The Science Building will be named after János Szentágothai
The Science Building-opposite the Heart Institue of the University of Pécs, on the southern slope of Makár Hill, still under construction-will be named after János Szentágothai (1912-1994). The Senate of the UP has decided to name the building after the world-famous neurologist, who was the chair of the Institute of Anatomy and conducted research in Pécs between 1946 and 1963.
Also, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization has decided that in 2012 the UNESCO will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of János Szentágothai- one of the most creative and renowned neurologists of the 20th century, a towering intellectual and a great humanist.
